Botox

Botox is injected into the facial areas where wrinkles appear in the forehead, glabella (in between the brows) and crow’s feet. It can also be injected into the masseter muscle of the jaw to relieve TMJ pain. The drug blocks signals from the nerves from reaching the facial muscles, effectively preventing the muscles from contracting. This lasts for approximately 3 months but everyone metabolizes Botox differently. The more often Botox injections are done, the weaker the muscles become and the longer it may last.

Men have thicker, stronger muscles than women so they tend to get deeper facial wrinkles. They sometimes need more units injected than women or a stronger concentration. Dr. Morgan does all of her Botox injections and they are done in the office with topical anesthetic. There is a risk of bruising, swelling and tiny amounts of bleeding at the injection site. There is no working out 24 hours after the treatment. Botox takes full effect in 10-14 days.

Dermal Fillers

Men are quickly realizing that dermal fillers can provide effective, long-lasting wrinkle reduction that helps them sustain a refined, youthful look. They also are getting fillers done to augment the chin, nose and jaw line instead of having surgery. Men have longer faces and deeper facial wrinkles so they tend to need more syringes of filler than women.

Dermal fillers are injected in the office by Dr. Morgan. Topical or local anesthetic can be used to make the procedure more comfortable. Swelling and bruising may occur after the filler is injected, this should subside in 3-7 days. Depending on the filler that is injected and the amount, the effects can last from 6 months to 2 years.

Kybella

A double chin caused by excess submental fat can hide a chiseled jaw and neckline. This is a very desirable look for guys and prior to Kybella, the only answer was a surgical procedure with prolonged down time. Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin. Kybella is 100% deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring bile acid that aids in the breakdown of fat in our bodies. It is injected in the office and the treatment takes about 30 minutes. Most patients will need 2-4 treatments done 6 weeks apart to get rid of their double chin, depending on how much fat is present. Kybella is painful when being injected. Topical numbing cream is applied for 20 minutes prior to treatment. Then the area is carefully marked to avoid injecting any nerves or muscles which could be damaged. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is administered to minimize the pain. The pain from the injections will subside in 3-5 minutes. Ice packs can be applied. After the treatment you will have swelling and redness. The night of your treatment you may need a pain pill to rest comfortably. The next day the area will be noticeably swollen and will begin to feel numb and firm. The swelling will begin to subside in 48 hours.
